The Players, from left: Jessy Ardern, Dan Augusta, and Ariel Levine.

The Struts and Frets Players are an independent theatre company operating in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. We all met through Manitoba Theatre for Young People, working on several student Shakespeare productions together. After discovering our mutual love of both theatre and classical mythology, we formed the Struts and Frets Players for the 2008 Winnipeg Fringe Festival, and we’ve been working together on various projects ever since.

Our mission is to breathe new life into old stories. Using techniques such as masks, puppetry, story theatre, and our own bizarre blend of comedy and drama (including puns a-plenty,) we aim to bring a wider audience to classic myths and legends that deserve to be better known than they are. Brought together by a love of mythology, good theatre, and the Bard, we stayed together because few others could cope with all of us at once for very long.

Dear People: I have enjoyed all your previous productions that I have seen. I was wondering if you might consider doing your treatment of the Orestia trilogy as it has intrigued some great playwrights. Keep up the great work. Thankfully yours, Wayne Choma(wchoma@netzero.net)

  2. Hi Struts and Frets Players,

I’m an artist looking for reference images of Sigurd and Fafnir. I came across your page https://sfplayers.wordpress.com/2011/04/20/announcing-sigurd-the-dragonslayer/ and the fantastic image there- is that an original that was used for your production, or does that come from somewhere else? Thanks, James

    Dear company,

My name is Ariel Leo- a University of Winnipeg Theatre student. I’ve seen your shows so far- ‘Cupid and Psyche’ and ‘Hound of Ulster’ and ‘Cupid and Psyche’ happened to be my favourate story of them all!

I’m just curious to ask, what story are you planning to be presenting this year at the Fringe?! 🙂

Looking forward to seeing your show and keep up with a great work! Take care!

    Ariel Leo

    • Dear Ariel,

Glad you liked them! Unfortunately, we will not be in this year’s festival. 😦 All three company members left Winnipeg to further their education in various fields – Jessy to Edmonton, Ariel to Oxford, and I to Toronto – so we are on hiatus for the foreseeable future. If and when that changes, I’ll be sure to post an update here.

      Sorry to disappoint!

      Dan Augusta

P.S. I’m not certain whether we’ve been properly introduced, but I do know you. I’m sure I’ve seen you around the U of W.
